RUSSIAN NATIONAL TRACK CHAMPIONSHIP

RusVelo track team spent a highly successful racing week in Saint Petersburg were Olympic events national championships were held. Over five days of the program they took seven golds, five silvers and two bronze medals. Sprint squad’s performance was especially impressive: Anastasia Voinova won individual and team sprint (with the teammate Daria Shmeleva, who went on to win 500 m TT); Denis Dmitriev dominated in every run of the individual event and topped it up with 1 km TT gold and team sprint silver, sharing the podium step with Alexey Nosov and Nikita Shurshin; Shurshin took a gold of his own in keirin, beating Dmitriev who had just returned from Japan where he raced extensive program of the classical keirin series. On the final day of the championships Voinova signed in to ride 1 km time trial with the men and beat Victoria Pendleton’s World record by almost three seconds, stopping the clock at 1’07.119.
